Scope and Content The Clachnaharry Locks leading into Muirtown basin are in the centre. These were designed by Telford and completed in 1822 for Inverness trade. The soil excavated from it provided material for the embankments. At the distal end of the basin were: the site of a US and UK Submarine depot, constructed in 1917, the Glenalbyn Distillery, and Inverness Tweed Mill 1888. The Merkinch industrial area of Inverness is on the right and the River Ness beyond. In the distance left is Kessock Bridge and the Moray Firth.
