Date 1997

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Scope and Content This view shows the town of Ullapool which was established by the British Fisheries Society in 1788 as a fishing station, one of three such towns built at the time to encourage fishing and develop the economy of the Highlands and provide employment. The town has had mixed success; the fish have gone but Ullapool is now a popular tourist destination and the mainland terminal for the Stornoway Ferry. The harbour(Canmore ID 110255) and pier (Canmore ID 281212) are clearly seen on the right of the view and also some of the original 18th century warehouses (Canmore ID 110318, 110259 and 110318) at the end of the pier. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
