Scope and Content This view shows, in the foreground Carbisdale Castle (Canmore ID 13011) built by the Dowager Duchess of Sutherland in 1910-1912, and the Shin Railway Viaduct (Canmore ID 13013) an iron-truss bridge constructed 1867 by Joseph Mitchell and Murdoch Paterson. 0n the right is the village of Culrain and on the left Invershin. In the distance the Dornoch Firth is seen with, at the narrowing of the waters, Ardgay on the right and Bonar Bridge on the left. The Battle of Lamentation Hill (Canmore ID 13060), part of the Covenanting Wars took place in 1650 in the general area to the right/south of Carbisdale Castle.
