Scope and Content A general view of Portmahomack with the old Manse in the lower centre. Above it to the right, within its walled burial ground, the old parish church on the site of a Pictish Monastery. The church is now a museum with a large collection of early medieval carved stones. The monastic site, excavated by Prof Martin Carver and a team from York University during 1995-2006, extended into the field to the left and above the church. The mill and industrial area lay here with evidence of metal, leather and glass working. In the upper, far right is the 19th century free church.
