Scope and Content Mingary castle is at the bottom of the photo. It is in a commanding position on the edge of Loch Sunart. A great stronghold, it dates from 13c built by a descendent of Somerled. It was later a seat of the Mclains of Ardnamurchan. Since the photo was taken it has been restored into a habitable building. To the left is a farmstead and steading.
