Scope and Content To the left is Iona Abbey, a modern restoration of a Benedictine Abbey, whose Church became the cathedral of the Bishops of the Isles in 1499. It was founded before 1203 and became ruined by the end of 17c. It was restored at the end of the 19c. There are numerous stone slabs of importance. St Columba's shrine partly underlies the nave of the Abbey. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
