Scope and Content Mallaig is a fishing village on the Sound of Sleat. It developed following the opening of the railway and the establishing of the harbour in 1901. The railway station is to the left of the harbour. The large building on the left is Mallaig High School, opened in 1989, when the existing Secondary School was upgraded to a six year status.
