Scope and Content This view shows Fasque House set in its landscaped grounds. The house was completed in 1809 for Sir Thomas Ramsay; purchased 1828 by Liverpool merchant John Gladstone (father of Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone), who added a portico and heightened the octagonal tower. To its W is the site of its C18 predecessor, Faskie. Towards left edge of image is the walled garden, among trees, noted in the C19 for its exotic fruits, hothouse, and heated walls. At a distance behind the house is the stable block, with beyond it the 1870s Home Farm (its predecessor having been located elsewhere). Hidden among trees to the right of the house are St Andrews Episcopal Church, and a souterrain. In the background, the heather hills of the Mounth mark the Highland Boundary Fault; with Lochnagar on the distant skyline. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
