Scope and Content Situated at the S end of the Cairn o' Mount pass from Deeside (entering village from right in upper right sector of image), Fettercairn is a significant route centre. It became a burgh of barony in 1504, with the shaft of its market cross surviving in The Square. The 19th-C parish church, with kirkyard, is visible right of centre. The Royal Arch (1864), commemorating an 1861 visit by Queen Victoria, is seen here as two slender, towers (apparently white in photo due to low sun) at road junction near centre of image. At top centre is Fettercairn Distillery (1824), whose predecessor was located on the slopes of the Cairn o' Mount. At top left, the rectangular cemetery contains the 20th-C war Memorial. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
