Scope and Content This view shows Beaufort Castle (Canmore ID 12746), former seat of Lord Lovat chief of the Clan Fraser, built in 1885. The castle has extensive parklands surrounding it and in the trees to the right of the castle are the scant remains of the former castle, Castle Dounie (also under Canmore ID 12746). The river Beauly is in the upper part of the view. The rectangular earthwork in the centre of the left half of the view may be part of a course for horse trials (see HER).
