SC 1864303

Description General oblique aerial view of the middle part of the Black Isle, Ross-shire, looking N.

Date 1989

Collection Papers of James Sloan Bone, landscape historian, Inverness, Highland, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 1864303

Scope and Content This view shows the main trunk road between Inverness and Wick/Thurso, the A9, making its way north across the Black Isle towards the Cromarty Bridge just seen at the top left. The view shows the major intersection of roads at the Tore roundabout (Tore village Canmore ID 351438). Much of the land is productive agricultural land and the large commercial forests on the poorer higher ground are clearly seen. Glackmore Farm is seen in the foreground. The woodland centre right of the view has several prehistoric sites, Croftcrunie Cairns (Canmore IDs 13597 and 13610) and hut circles. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
