Scope and Content General oblique aerial view of Westburn Gardens, Westburn Grove and Westburn Park, Wester Hailes, Edinburgh The Wester Hailes development was built from 1969 onwards. Westburn Gardens consisted of seven nine-storeyed slab blocks containing 442 flats in total. They were built by Crudens for Edinburgh Corporation, and demolished c.1994. This aerial view shows the large pitch-roofed slab blocks arranged around gardens, with low-rise flats beyond. A large car park is visible at the bottom of the picture. Above the roundabout (top left), is the job centre and Wester Hailes shopping centre. Westburn Gardens was demolished c.1994, and the area was redeveloped. Sometimes even fairly modern buildings like these flats, are demolished due to social or economic problems. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
