Scope and Content Hilton Hospital is towards top centre of this photograph with Old Edinburgh Road running from top to bottom and Damfield Road from centre left to join Old Edinburgh Road at the hospital. Hilton Hospital was built as the Inverness Poorhouse between 1859 and 1861. It then became Muirfield Hospital and then Hilton Hospital when it specialised in geriatrics. Closed 1987 and now converted into housing and known as Old Edinburgh Court. Originally the poorhouse had a gatehouse but the gatehouse was demolished in the 1960s and all that remains is the original gateway.
