Scope and Content Loch Ness is in the distance. In the foreground to the right is the river Ness, to the left the Caledonian Canal completed in 1822 by Telford. The section in the photo is from Dochgarroch to Loch Ness. The canal leaves Loch Ness through the channel at Bona Ferry and past the Loch Darroch weir and Dochfour embankment. Where the canal and River enter Loch Ness there is a possible fort, Banatia and defensive castle Spiritual. Most remains were destroyed as the canal was constructed. To the right is Lochend where there was a township shown on the 1st edition OS. Title and Scope & Content contributed by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (2021).
