Archive History The Skinner and Billings drawings were purchased by Historic Environment Scotland from the Estate of Neil Hynd in 2019 (Acc No 2019/45). The Valentine albums, Lyons albums and other Hynd papers were presented to HES by his Estate (Acc No 2019/46).

Administrative History Neil Robertson Hynd, architect (1945-2019). Born in Dundee, Neil Hynd was educated at Dundee High School, Cargilfield and Fettes College, before studying architecture at the University of Edinburgh. As an architect he joined the Ministry of Public Buildings and Works, working in the Ancient Monuments department, and continued there, and in its successor bodies, including Historic Scotland, until retirement. He took a lead role in numerous repair and restoration projects, including New Abbey Corn Mill, Chatelherault, the Edinburgh Castle tunnel, and Stirling Castle Great Hall. He was awarded a Lieutenancy of the Royal Victorian Order for his work on Holyrood Palace. LVO, FRIAS, FSA Scot
