Scope and Content Fort at Cramond, City of Edinburgh This Roman fort is at Cramond, overlooking the confluence of the River Almond with the Forth. Most of the site now lies under modern structures, including a church, graveyard and a car park. There were several phases of occupation on the site. This is an aerial view of the site. A section of the fort has been preserved in a park, with the lines of ramparts and internal structures being marked out. These can be seen above the church in the centre of the image. The fort has been excavated several times. Auxiliary garrisons included, a cohort of Tungrians and one of Gauls. Finds are now in Huntly House Museum and the Royal Museum of Scotland, both in Edinburgh. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
