Scope and Content Fort at Cramond, City of Edinburgh This Roman fort is at Cramond, overlooking the confluence of the River Almond with the Forth. Most of the site now lies under modern structures, including a church, graveyard and a car park. There were several phases of occupation on the site. This is an aerial view of the site, showing the location of the fort at the mouth of the River Almond. Part of the layout of the fort can be seen above the church. Sections of the rampart, a gate and internal buildings have been marked-out on the grass. The fort has been excavated several times. Auxiliary garrisons included, a cohort of Tungrians and one of Gauls. Finds are now in Huntly House Museum and the Royal Museum of Scotland, both in Edinburgh. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
