Scope and Content Fort and temporary camp at Inverquharity, Angus This Roman fort and temporary camps are at Inverquharity. The fort is built at the higher, NW, end of a plateau at the mouth of Glen Clova, to the W of the confluence of the Prosen Water and the River South Esk. The camp lies to the E of the fort itself. This is an aerial view of the site. Though nothing of the fort can be seen of the fort on the ground, its layout can be seen here as a series of cropmarks. The SE defences were found during excavation. There was also an earlier native fort underneath. The site has been partially excavated, but no datable finds were recovered. There appears to have been only one, short period of occupation, possibly in the 1st century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
