Scope and Content Henge monument at North Mains, Strathallan, Perth and Kinross The ditches of this henge were discovered as cropmarks on oblique aerial photographs. The ditches are very broad and asymmetric, and are broken by two entrance causeways which open towards the NE and SW. This aerial photograph was taken the year before excavation began. The ditches are clearly visible as dark curving lines. A concentric setting of post-holes can be seen inside the ditches. The parch-mark of an outer bank can be made out on the NW. This henge was situated on a level terrace between the River Earn and the Machany Water. It was completely excavated in 1979 in advance of development. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
