Administrative History Robert Brydall, antiquarian, active c.1890-c1910. An authority on medieval funerary monuments in Scotland, Brydall published a series of articles in 'Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland', including 'The monumental effigies of Scotland from the thirteenth to the fifteenth century' (1895), 'Notice of a group of carved grave-slabs at Dalmally, Argyleshire' (1897), 'Notice of the priory church of Ardchattan and its carved stones' (1899), 'Notice of a group of carved stones on Inishail, Loch Awe, Argyleshire' (1899), 'Notice of a carved stone at Crail, Fifeshire' (1899), 'Notice (1) of an incised sepulchral slab at Ardchattan Priory; and (2) of three carved slabs at Taynuilt, Argyllshire' (1901), and 'Notices of incised and sculptured stones at (1) Luss; (2) Inch Cailleach, Loch Lomond; and (3) at Glendaruel in Argyleshire' (1908). He also co-wrote 'Iona: its history and antiquities' (1898) with Rev. Archibald Macmillan, contributing a survey of its carved stones.
