Scope and Content A collection of mounted photographic prints, mostly of buildings and sites in Ross and Cromarty, including Kildermorie Lodge, Glen of Scotsburn, St Duthac's Tain, St Maol Luag's Chapel, Brochel Castle, and Raasay House, Raasay. Also, photocopied extracts detailing wrecks of the Pentland Firth compiled by W Bremner and D G Sinclair, n.d. Six colour photographic views of 7 St James Street, Avoch. Administrative History Jane Mary Stowe Durham (nee Paterson), conservationist (1924-97). Born in Easter Ross, Jane Durham became a leading figure in the study, preservation and promotion of the cultural and historical heritage of the Highlands in general and Ross and Cromarty in particular. Her interests were wide-ranging, from vernacular buildings to archaeological field monuments and early medieval sculpture. She contributed to a range of conservation organisations, including Tain and Easter Ross Civic Society, the Highland Group of the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland, of which she was chair, the Scottish Vernacular Buildings Working Group (also chair), and the Scottish Historic Buildings Trust. In 1984 she was appointed a Commissioner of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland, a post which she held until 1994.
