Scope and Content Monument at Steinacleit, Shader, Lewis, Western Isles This monument at Steinacleit on Lewis was originally though to consist of a walled enclosure with a chambered cairn inside. It is now thought to be a settlement site. It is built on a slope above a small loch. Two standing stones are nearby. This is an aerial view of the site. It shows both the walled enclosure and the structure inside. Excavation work would need to be undertaken in order to work out what it actually was, but it is most convincingly interpreted as a settlement. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
