Scope and Content Aerial view of Culzean Castle and Home Farm, Strathclyde Located 7km west of Maybole on the Ayrshire coast, Culzean Castle, seat of the Kennedy family, was a 15th- or 16th-century tower-house. This was remodelled for David Kennedy, 10th Earl of Cassilis, by Robert Adam in 1777-9. This aerial view shows the castle in the centre of the photograph. The architects Wardrop & Reid added the west wing (lower centre) in 1875-6. In 1946, the castle was gifted to The National Trust for Scotland who have carried out much restoration work. At the top of the photograph is Home Farm, also designed by Robert Adam in 1777. Originally a square courtyard of stables, byres and barns, it was restored 1971-3 by The National Trust for Scotland as a visitor centre for the Culzean Country Park.
