Administrative History Harlaw Academy was originally established in Little Belmont Street as the Aberdeen High School for Girls in 1874. In 1893, the school amalgamated with Mrs. Elmslie's Institution and moved to its current building location at 19 Albyn Place, designed by Archibald Simpson. During the First World War, the building was requisitioned by the War Office to create the 1st Scottish General Hospital, a facility for the Royal Army Medical Corps to treat military casualties. The school's name was changed to Harlaw Academy in 1970, following the introduction of the city's area comprehensive schooling system.
