Scope and Content Henge monument at Achilty, Ross and Cromarty, Highland This henge is defined by a penannular ditch which is surrounded by a continuous bank. The ditch is broken by a narrow entrance causeway which faces E. The bank does not have an entrance and is not very high. This is an aerial photograph of the henge. It is situated in a field beside the road, and the reeds that have grown in the ditch form a dark-green circle. A tree has cast a shadow across the SE quadrant of the henge. This small henge survives as an earthwork at the edge of a field at the E end of Loch Achilty. In 1837, it was described as 'one of those circles formed of stone' where 'a few empty earthen jars' had been discovered. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
