Scope and Content Prehistoric Fort at Burnswark, Dumfries and Galloway Burnswark Hill dominates the local landscape and has served as a focus for human activity since prehistoric times. The top of the hill has been enclosed by the rampart of an Iron Age fort and, visible as a heart-shaped enclosure in the interior is a 17th century artillery fort. On the lower slopes a triangular Iron Age fort can be seen. Sites such as this show the complex remains which survive in upland landscapes. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
