Scope and Content Temporary camp and settlement at Carronbridge, Dumfries and Galloway This settlement and Roman temporary camp are at Carronbridge. The settlement had several phases of use, and does not appear to be related to the Roman camp. Part of the settlement is now under a modern road, and part of the camp obscured by trees. This is an aerial view of the site. The double-ditched, rectangular settlement can be seen just to the left of the modern road. Above and to the left can be seen three sides of the temporary camp. The camp has three visible gates. The settlement, which was excavated in 1953 to 1954 and 1989 to 1990, contained up to four round houses. Two bronze brooches and a 7th century penannular brooch were found. These may not be related to the settlement. The camp was excavated in 1990. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
