Scope and Content Possible henge monument at Dunragit, Wigtownshire, Dumfries and Galloway The ditch of this possible henge was first discovered as a cropmark on oblique aerial photographs in 1992. The ditch is shaped like a horseshoe and is interrupted by an entrance causeway which faces towards the E. The broad ditch of the henge is visible as a dark penannular ring in the centre of this aerial photograph. The terminals of the ditch appear to be round-ended, and a row of pits runs eastwards across the field from the S terminal. This possible henge has been levelled by ploughing and lies in a flat field to the S of the railway. The cropmarks of several other ring-ditches, a pit-alignment and pit-defined enclosures can also be seen in the field. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
