Scope and Content Temporary camp at Oakwood, Scottish Borders This Roman temporary camp is at Oakwood, near Selkirk. It lies on a NW-facing slope, and a section of the bank and ditch at the NE corner can be made out on the ground. The outline of the camp can still be seen as cropmarks on aerial photographs, such as this one. The camp was roughly rectangular on plan with rounded corners. There are four known entrances, all of which are thought to have been protected by clavicula. The camp was discovered by aerial photography in 1949. It was excavated in the 1950s. The camp may have been built to house those building the adjacent Roman fort. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
