Scope and Content Fort at Oakwood, nr Selkirk, Scottish Borders This fort at Oakwood is on a low knoll which rises above the surrounding countryside. There are good views to the N and W, and to the E the signalling station at Eildon Hill North can be seen. The fort seems to have been deliberately abandoned. This is an aerial view of the site. The fort can be seen as a cropmark in the middle of the image. Below it, on the SE side, is an annexe, the entrance of which is clearly visible as a gap in the defensive ditch. The gateways of the forts are inturned, with the rampart curving in to meet each of the four gates. The fort was not reoccupied in the Antonine period. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
