Scope and Content Dunsapie Crag fort and settlement, Holyrood Park, City of Edinburgh The rampart of a small fort may be traced around the summit of Dunsapie Crag, and a medieval bank leads to a small scooped farmstead on the eastern slopes above the Park wall. There is no precise date for these sites, but they relate to the Iron Age. Excavations inside the fort identified probable house sites, as well as debris from metal working and domestic rubbish. The settlement site has not been excavated, but two platforms for timber round-houses may be seen inside. The settlement probably relates to a period when defence was not important. The low bank around it may well have been topped with brushwood and served to keep wild animals out as well as domestic animals in. Small field terraces lie close by.
