Scope and Content Fortlet at Durisdeer, Kirk Burn, Dumfries and Galloway The Durisdeer fortlet is the best example of its kind in the area. Built on a steep-sided ridge, it overlooks the pass through which a Roman road once ran. The road may have been is use around AD 85 to 105, and again in the second century. This is an aerial view of the site with the fortlet visible in the middle of the image. The defensive bank still stands to up to 1.2 m high. The causeway from the entrance over the outer ditch can be seen. It has a tutulus ditch at the far end. The fort was probably constructed during the reign of the Emperor Antonine, sometime after AD 142. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
