Scope and Content Fort at Mollins, East Dunbartonshire This Roman fort is at Mollins. It is built at the W end of a low ridge, on the S bank of the Luggie Water. It is almost equidistant from Cadder and Castlecary. The fort probably only had a single period of occupation. This is an aerial view of the site. The fort can be seen as a series of cropmarks in the middle of the image. The S, E and probably N sides were defended by two ditches. To the left of the fort (its W side), was an annexe. The site was discovered in 1977 through aerial photography and trial excavations were undertaken in 1977 and 1978. Finds include pottery of the period AD 60-69. The fort may be one of the praesidia built across the Forth-Clyde isthmus by Agricola c AD 81. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
