Scope and Content Chambered cairn known as Mid Gleniron I at Mid Gleniron, Dumfries and Galloway There are two chambered long cairns at Mid Gleniron, both of which belong to the Clyde-type. To the S of each of the long cairns is a circular burial cairn. This is a view of the cairn. The earliest part was a rectangular burial chamber under a cairn. A second chamber and cairn was built in front of it. A third chamber was built in between and all three were covered by the long cairn with a concave N facade. The site has been excavated in 1963-6. Nine cremations in cinerary urns had been built into the SE flank showing continuous use in the Bronze Age. A further cremation was in the round cairn. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
