Scope and Content Fort and temporary camp at Bochastle, Perth and Kinross This Roman fort and temporary camp are at Bochastle, near Callander. The location of the fort is curious, as being on low ground by the junction of two rivers, it is prone to flooding. Indeed this does seem to have happened at least once in Roman times. This is an aerial view of the site. The layout can be seen from the rectangular cropmark in the centre of the image. At ground level, the W rampart still stands to 2.7 m high. The camp can be seen above the fort, surrounding the modern buildings. The site has been excavated several times, beginning in 1949. Many of the finds are now in the Hunterian Museum, University of Glasgow. The camp may have had two periods of use, and been reduced in size. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
