Scope and Content Aerial view of a township and stock enclosure at Gortonagour, Highland Situated on the north-west bank of the River Nairn, about 1km north-east of Aberader House there are the remains of a township. This township comprises four rectangular buildings each with faced-rubble walls. In 1871 the Ordnance Survey noted that the settlement comprised a small, one storeyed farmhouse with out-buildings, all thatched. Township lands were formed jointly by a number of tenants, each with a separate farmsteading. The better land was used for arable crops, the poorer used for grazing stock.
