Scope and Content Aerial view of walled garden at Culzean Castle, Strathclyde Located 7km west of Maybole on the Ayrshire coast, Culzean Castle, seat of the Kennedy family, was a 15th- or 16th-century tower-house. This was remodelled for David Kennedy, 10th Earl of Cassilis, by Robert Adam in 1777-9. The architects Wardrop & Reid added the west wing to the castle in 1875-6. In 1946, the castle was gifted to The National Trust for Scotland who have carried out much restoration work since. This aerial view shows the walled garden at Culzean, which was created to provide a supply of fruit and vegetables for the castle. The garden still produces fruit and vegetables, as well as flowers and herbs. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
