Erected in 1677 by Sir Hugh Campbell, the original house was altered and extended by a number of subsequent owners in 1731, the late 18th century, 1841 and 1909-11. This aerial view shows the layout of the house, with the main block of 1677 and 1731 at the bottom of the photograph, and later ancillary blocks above and to the left and right. At the top is Islay Home Farm, which dates from the late 18th century. The house has a number of traditional characteristics such as its harled and limewashed masonry, crowstepped gables and 12-paned sash and case windows. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
