Description Oblique aerial view.

Date 1984

Collection RCAHMS Aerial Photography

Catalogue Number SC 1681317

Category On-line Digital Images

Copy of A 65249

Scope and Content Bathgate Castle, West Lothian There are now no upstanding remains of the castle at Bathgate which appears on the coat of arms of the town. From the air, the site of the castle on ground south-east of Bathgate is fairly distinct. Two ditches surrounding a mound are readily apparent. Bathgate Castle was gifted by Robert the Bruce to his daughter Marjory when she married Walter Stewart, Lord High Steward of Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
