Scope and Content Aerial view of Aberdeen Football Club, Pittodrie Park Stadium, Pittodrie Street, Aberdeen Pittodrie Park Stadium in Aberdeen is the home ground of Aberdeen Football Club, popularly known as 'The Dons'. The Club was formed in 1903 when the original Aberdeen Football Club amalgamated with two other local clubs, Victoria United and Orion. 'Pittodrie' means 'dung hill' as the site was originally a rubbish tip. This aerial view of the stadium, taken from the west, shows the Richard Donald Stand closest to the sea, flanked by the Main Stand to the left and the South Stand to the right. The Merkland Stand is closest to King Street and, along with the Main Stand, dates back to 1903. The other two are later additions. Between the sea and Pittodrie Stadium is Aberdeen Links and beyond the now demolished gas chamber to the right is Trinity Graveyard. At the bottom right hand corner of the photograph is the headquarters of First Aberdeen Bus Company. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
