Scope and Content Aerial view of Cally House (now Cally Palace Hotel), Dumfries and Galloway Cally House lies c.1km south of Gatehouse of Fleet. Designed and built 1759-65 by Robert Mylne for the Murrays of Broughton, the original house consisted of a three-storey-plus-basement central block with flanking pavilions. This aerial view shows the rear elevation. In 1794 the pavilions were raised by one storey by Thomas Boyd. Further alterations took place in 1833-7 when John Buonarotti Papworth added a porte-cochère to the front entrance and recast parts of the house. The house became a hotel in 1934 and a glazed dining room and a lift tower were added in 1955-6 with the flat-roofed buildings (right) added in 1974. A chapel built to the west of the house in 1857 by Lanyon & Lynn of Belfast was demolished in 1990. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
