Scope and Content Oblique aerial view of the Callendar Estate development, Falkirk, Stirlingshire This development of multi-storeyed housing was built within the grounds of Callendar House, south of the Roman Antonine Wall. Five, fifteen-storey blocks were approved for construction in 1965, with a further two 15-storey blocks in 1966. They contain 588 flats in total and were built by Crudens. This aerial view shows the landscaped park with the tower blocks arranged within it. The blocks are constructed of brick and panel, creating a two-tone effect. The remains of the Antonine wall can be seen (left) as a long wooded ditch running parallel to the tower blocks. Callendar House is also visible (top). These tower blocks, designed by Falkirk Burgh Architects, were built after Callendar House and estate were bought by Falkirk Town Council in 1962. Callendar House itself now contains Falkirk Museums Services and the History Research Centre. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
