Scope and Content Broch at Edinshall, Scottish Borders This broch is built within the remains of an earlier fort at Edinshall. In the late 18th century the site was known as Wooden's Hall (or Castle) after Woden or Odin. It has also been linked to the folktale of Red Etin. This is a view of the remains of the broch looking down the entrance passage into the courtyard. The entrance to one of the guard cells can be seen in the passage wall. The entrance to one of the inner cells can be seen in the back wall. In Roman times, this area belonged to the tribe known as the Votadini, who appear to have had a peaceful relationship with Roman authority.. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
