'Report of Archaeological Desktop Survey, Reay Estate, Highland.'

MS 7995

Description 'Report of Archaeological Desktop Survey, Reay Estate, Highland.'

Date 9/2009

Collection Stuart Farrell

Catalogue Number MS 7995

Category Manuscripts

Scope and Content This report describes a desktop survey to record any archaeological features in a considerable number of blocks of existing and proposed forestry or woodland. It notes that very little archaeological survey work has been done on the Reay Estate in the past. It includes one Scheduled Ancient Monument (Badnabay). Overall, most of the sites revealed relate to a former farming/crofting landscape, mainly abandoned in the mid to late 19th century. Only a few sites were prrehistoric in date. It was recommended that most of the sites be visited as the locations given may not be entirely accurate. It was also recommended that exclusion zones be established around many of the sites. Client: CKD Galbraith on behalf of Reay Estate..
