Scope and Content Lincluden College, Kirkcudbrightshire Lincluden College was a collegiate church established by the Douglas family in 1389 on the site of a Benedictine nunnery. The church dates from the early 15th century and contains the tomb of Margaret (d.1450), daughter of Robert III (1337-1406). This shows the existing ruins of the choir, south transept and nave of the church, together with the remains of some of the adapted buildings of the original convent. Lodgings for the provost (chief priest) extend to the north of the church. Collegiate churches were endowed, by the founders, for the support of priests whose principal duty was to say masses for the souls of founders and their families.
