Scope and Content Chambered cairn at Torlin, Arran, North Ayrshire This chambered cairn is at Torrylin. It had been subjected to stone-robbing and thus its original shape is uncertain, but it was probably rectangular or trapezoidal. The best surviving part is a portion of the chamber. This view shows the remains of the chamber. It was probably of Clyde-type and is aligned NNW-SSE. It was divided into at least four compartments, with the side slabs overlapping. The entrance has been destroyed. The cairn was excavated c.1861, 1896 and 1900. Find included four human skulls from the third compartment and at lest six adults, a child and an infant from the fourth. There was also a flint knife and pot sherds now in the Royal Museum of Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
