Scope and Content Gravestone commemorating John Scott and Jean Goodfellow, Teviothead churchyard, Scottish Borders This gravestone commemorates John Scott, a tenant farmer, who died in 1752 aged 76. His wife, Jean Goodfellow, who died in 1783 aged 93, is also interred here. Carved on the reverse face of the stone is a relief portrait, the details now a little worn, which depicts John wearing the long full-skirted jacket typical of the day. The graveyards of Scotland are an important part of the cultural heritage of the country and can provide fascinating information for people interested in family or local history, as well as vernacular art.
