Scope and Content Holyrood Park and Duddingston, City of Edinburgh Holyrood Park today is a place of recreation, but it has a long and varied history. Numerous industrial, agricultural and religious remains may be seen on a walk through the Park. Duddingston, on the south side of the Park, has a name that goes back to the 12th century as Dodin's Town, but before that it was called Treverlen, a name that may stretch back to the 7th century. Few other sites in the Park may be dated precisely, though Duddingston Loch was clearly a place of importance in the 1st millennium BC when many bronze objects, including broken swords and axes were deposited here.
