Report: 'Underground Cable, Finchairn, Loch Awe, Argyll, watching brief, September 2013'

MS 7703

Description Report: 'Underground Cable, Finchairn, Loch Awe, Argyll, watching brief, September 2013'

Date 9/2013

Collection Records of Scotia Archaeology Ltd, Aberfeldy, Perth and Kinross, Scotland

Catalogue Number MS 7703

Category Manuscripts

Copies WP 005512

Scope and Content This document descibes the results of an archaeological watching brief along a short section of the route of a new underground cable, passing between several outcrops of bedrock, sites of prehistoric rock art, particularly cup-markings, some of which constitute elements of a Scheduled Ancient Monument; another Scheduled Monument (Finchairn Cairn) is located a short distance from a new power station where the cable line terminates. Not all the cup-marks could be identified; much of the ground through which the trench was excavated was prone to being waterlogged. Nothing of archaeological interest was revealed within the cable trench excavated. The report consists of 7 pages, including diagram. The desk study and field work was carried out by John Lewis of Scotia Archaeology at the request of Scotish and Southern Energy.
