Scope and Content Printing. This is a small Wharfedale or double demy (takes upto printing paper 22.5 by 35 inches (57cm x 89cm) in size) printing press by Furnival and Co, 1927. This is a flatbed printing machine with small hand fed cylinder. Eletrcially driven, originally it may have been hand operated. This was replaced by a later vertical Miehle printer (up to A3 size, USA, 1960). The printing machine was kept by the company as backup. The Wharfedale printing press was first built in 1856 by the company Dawson, Payne and Elliot. The Wharfedale revioutionised printing as it introduced the cylinder which when used with the flatbed offered a more efficent printing process than the traditional method of printing with two flat surfaces.
